In 1948, the post war M&P's changed from the pre-war long action hammer throw to the post war short action we know today. This change occurred at serial number S 990184 approximately. This "S" short action

variation pops up occassionally, but certainly not as often as other M&Ps since only 9800 serial numbers are left until the "C" series begins at C1. An interesting collecting niche where some reasonable prices

are still available.

Matching assembly numbers, good action and lockup,  6 inch barrel, worn or browning finish overall, matching numbered rosewood grips, normal hinge play, crisp address and serial number. Patent worn but legible. A good example for study of this antique. Civil War serial number range. Shipped 1863.
